Poor Vision, Risk of collision
THE WHO DECLARES POOR EYESIGHT AMONG THE MAIN RISK FACTORS FOR ROAD CRASHES (1)

Vision is the most important sense to make decisions on the road.

Poor vision can notably decrease your chances of reacting in time, putting yourself and others at risk.

It is an avoidable cause of accidents:

  • 80% of all vision impairments can be prevented or cured (2)

However, there is a lack of awareness:

  • 1 in 5 drivers cannot see the road clearly due to uncorrected poor vision (3)
  • In Europe, 19% of drivers report delaying visits to an eye care professional until they notice problem with their vision (4)

Today, poor vision is the world’s most common disability (5), with over 2.5bn people (3) still suffering from uncorrected vision problems. It bears significant social and economic costs: $272bn in lost productivity globally (3).

Visual assessments for driving are a major public health issue and must be considered as important as other road safety issues.

License regulations relating to vision are still weak in most countries (4).
